Ole No. 9 might refer to Bourbon or to Redskins Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen, who preferred Scotch as I hear it. For ‘Skins fans who watched him play, it will always be Sonny. HE is the reason most Redskins fans are Redskins fans – because old farts like Hog Heaven came of age […]
Want proof that it’s a small world and a round one? In a moment of disenchantment with Geno Smith last year, the Jets inquired about trading for Redskins back-up QB Kirk Cousins. The Redskins would have none of it. Nothing came of the Jets feeler. Here’s what Ian Rapoport said at the time. “But make […]
How much longer do Redskins fans have to wait to see our shiny new first-round toy, WR Josh Doctson? Some say it’s day to day. Others say he’s a bust pick, put him on PUP for the first 6 games and we’ll be lucky to get him even then. According to all, the coaches are […]
USA Today published its 2016 preseason NFL power ranking. Let’s indulge our curiosity about the Redskins 2016 schedule and rank opponents by the USA Today power ranking. USA Today RANK TEAM GAME DAY COMMENTS 1 Arizona CARDINALS December 4 Tough out. The Cardinals won 34 games over the last three season and scored 101 more […]
Matt Jones’ struggle to run against the Falcons was the biggest disappointment of the Redskins’ night. Football is the most team oriented of all sports. Failed plays cannot be laid solely at the feet of the player with the ball. It really does take 10 other guys to make a play work. Rich Tandler reminds […]
Redskins at Falcons is in the books. Hog Heaven contributor Scott was left distraught by the effort. Hog Heaven himself takes a look in light of the five things we hoped to see. Kirk Cousins improvement and offensive ball movement. From espn.com’s John Keim: Kirk Cousins makes sharp decisions, effective throws in Redskins opener. “But […]
The defense will outshine the offense and the pathetic run game and blocking. Hogs 2.0? More like Piglets 2.0! Not optimistic about what I saw. Davis’s drop wasn’t just a drop for an easy catch for a TD, it was a series of endless drops he’s had from last year too with the Broncos. A […]
Here’s a fun way to spend a few moments before the Redskins at Falcons game tonight: What are the odds for Redskins league leaders? My friends at Bovada.lv are here to help with their betting odds of NFL Stat Leaders for 2016. Here is what they say. Odds for who will be the NFL Passing […]
Show me this in Redskins vs. Falcons. No. 5: Kirk Cousins’ improvement. Hog Heaven takes it for granted that QB Kirk Cousins continues his steady improvement from 2015. Blah blah blah full offseason blah blah blah contract year blah blah blah motivated blah blah blah. Full disclosure: Hog Heaven is a Spartans grad and fan […]
With a dramatic weight change faster than you can say “Josh LeRibeus,” Trent Murphy will go back to Outside Linebacker. The official reason is for depth since the Galette injury. The problem with that explanation is that the Galette injury happened a couple weeks ago. The real reason is either 1) The backup outside linebacker […]
The Washington Redskins yesterday signed former Utah Utes QB Kendal Thompson to the roster to compete for a wide receiver spot. The Redskins did not make a big deal of Thompson’s heritage. He is Kiowa from Oklahoma. Hog Heaven is making a big deal that no one is making a big deal, because that’s the […]
Redskins’ first round Draft pick Josh Doctson will open training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. We used this news as an excuse to post
Yesterday, Hog Heaven had this great idea for a blog post about the Redskins and why Greg Hardy had no place on the team. Then Mike Jones blew that idea out of the water. Poof! Story idea gone. We were going to say something about Hardy’s character. He’s a bad actor. If the Cowboys can’t […]
Democratic U.S. Senators whipped themselves in a PC frenzy two years ago when they publicly condemned the Washington Redskins team name in a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, instead of to Daniel Snyder who owns the team and the brand.
Tim Kaine and his Virginia colleague Mark Warner were the only Democratic Senators not to play along.
Asked to explain, Kaine said he did not care for the name but that the Senate should stay out of it.
Hog Heaven leans Democratic, but we look askance at Dems who invent offense where none exists. (Excessive political correctness gave rise to Donald Trump who makes a fetish of incorrectness.)
Whatever you think of Kaine, his stance is the correct one for government. This is a free country. Outside of safety, equality and criminal activity, private decisions by people and business is not their concern.
ESPN.com’s John Keim broke the news that Redskins pass rusher Junior Galette tore his Achilles tendon and will miss the 2016 season. noooooooooo! Is all I’ve got to say. nooooooooooo. Hog Heaven’s personal projection for the 2016 season drops by one game from 8-9 wins to 7-8 wins.
Rare that someone makes a hype video of an offensive lineman. Somebody did that for Trent Williams. Thanks to his play, no one in Washington says, “Gee, this team really misses Chris Samuels.”
Language Not Safe for Work. I am old school about that.

The passing of Zema “Chief Zee” Williams is a big deal, but not just for the loss of arguably the Redskins’ staunchest fan. The Chief is from an age when fans were more expressive. You know, before the NFL corporationists wrested control of the game experience from fans. They snuffed out all the originality that […]
The Redskins, by way of NFL.com, put the perfect spin on the non-deal with Kirk Cousins. “It’s the market. The NFL’s a phenomenal, phenomenal entity, and the money’s incredible. But the way I look at it is I want Kirk in a long-term deal, no doubt about it, but also I’m not gonna put our […]
When it comes to Kirk Cousins, no one ever brings up that Robert Griffin III was never able to repeat his rookie performance. Everyone in Redskinsland wanted to extend RGIII’s contract on the spot in December 2012. Is it any different for Kirk Cousins? It is a caution for team owner Daniel Snyder who loved […]
“The Redskins have never signed a tagged player to a long-term contract. Their first franchised player was LB Wilber Marshall, who ended up with the Oilers after a contentious debate over compensation. A few years later transition-tagged CB Tom Carter signed an offer sheet with the Bears and the Redskins chose not to match. DT Sean Gilbert sat out a year rather than play on the franchise tag in 1997. He was tagged again in 1998 and eventually signed with the Panthers, giving the Redskins two first-round picks. CB Champ Bailey was on the tag for a few weeks before being traded to the Broncos in 2004. They didn’t use the tag again until 2012, when TE Fred Davis was franchised. He suffered a torn Achilles in Week 7, signed a one-year deal to return the next year, and hasn’t played since. Then came Orakpo.”
~ Rich Tandler, Real Redskins, The Redskins have never signed a tagged player long term
Don’t expect quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins to agree to a long-term extension before Friday’s deadline for franchise-tagged players. Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report was told by one person close to negotiations that there is a “3-5 percent chance” the two sides agree to a new deal before the deadline, while Jason La […]
Redskins.com posted its preview of the Week 8 Redskins vs. Bengals game. This contest happens in Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom, Sunday, October 30, 2016. That’s an expensive trip for most Redskins fans. It’s not as simple as hopping a flight. If you haven’t booked your trip yet, you’d best get moving. Here are […]
Hog Heaven foresaw this contract scenario play out for Kirk Cousins, but we saw it happening with another team. In 2012, we all saw Robert Griffin III as the savior of Redskins football who today would be playing on a one-year, bargain-priced $16 million contract extension. As we wait to see which side blinks first, […]
Kirk Cousins and the Redskins aren’t fazed by the looming July 15 deadline to sign franchise-tagged players to a long-term deal. That’s because Cousins and the Redskins are so far apart that it’s a foregone conclusion that the quarterback will play under the tag in 2016, according to Pro Football Talk. Cousins will earn $19.953 […]
