Kirk Cousins vs. Robert Griffin III, a Redskins player’s revealing comment

“In the past, when stuff happened like it did in this (Eagles) game, we would’ve folded as a team, and Philadelphia would’ve been up 21. This is a big, big confidence builder for us.

“Give Coach Gruden credit for making a hard decision, but making the right decision. This was the game that showed you why he went to Kirk. We all love Robert, and we hate to see him not getting the chance he worked so hard for. But you see the production with Kirk, and now you see he can lead us to victory in the fourth quarter.”

~ Redskins DL Chris Baker, as quoted in This Game is Why Gruden Went to Kirk,

Redskins Can Get Back To .500 At Home, Will Host Eagles In Week 4 Divisional Clash

Coming into the 2015 season, many fans and analysts alike predicted the Washington Redskins would finish in last-place of the NFC East division. By that token, the Redskins are exceeding their preseason expectations, at least based on how the first three weeks have looked, as despite being 1-2, Washington has looked relatively decent, and can […]

Ghost of Joe Gibbs haunts the Redskins, in a good way

The spirit of Joe Gibbs is back with the Redskins. I noticed a vague sense of the familiar while watching the Rams at Redskins game. It was hard to pinpoint at first. Then it gradually dawned on me that I haven’t seen such slobber knocking Redskins football since Joe Gibbs’ heyday. I don’t mean the […]

Waiting for the real Kirk Cousins to emerge for the Redskins

Some Hog Heaven readers know that I am a Michigan State grad, and proudly so. Thus, I have admired Kirk Cousins’ play as quarterback for the MSU Spartans since 2009. I’m waiting for the Spartans Cousins to emerge for the Redskins. We’ve seen glimpses, in Baltimore and Cleveland in 2012; He appeared briefly against Philadelphia […]

Redskins, Dolphins set to battle with fourth-year QBs under center

The Washington Redskins were a field goal away from finishing the preseason with an undefeated record, and maybe it’s a good thing that they didn’t accomplish the feat. Remember, the 2008 Detroit Lions, with Matt Millen (until he was fired) and Rod Marinelli calling the shots, went undefeated in the preseason as well—yet they finished […]

Griffin or Cousins makes little difference to the Redskins’ 2015 season

The bottom line: Both Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins are average performers in Jay Gruden’s offense. It makes little difference to the outcome of the Redskins’ 2015 season whichever player starts at quarterback. Robert Griffin III fans are utterly convinced of Kirk Cousins’ pending failure and in the doom of the Redskins. Clinton Portis […]

These Redskins bubble players are too good to stash on the Practice Squad

After the highway robbery of Tevin Mitchel by the Indianapolis Colts, it is clear the Redskins will not be able to “hide” anyone substantial on the Practice Squad. It’s obvious that someone like Kyshoen Jarrett is going to make the team and would never last on the Practice Squad, so we’ll focus on UDFA’s and […]

Redskins, Jaguars to square off in preseason finale

The Washington Redskins may have had some issues off the field—mainly surrounding who will start under center in Week 1—but they’re undefeated during preseason play so far and look to take their momentum into Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at FedEx Field. The Redskins’ recent success has stemmed from their ability to stop […]

Redskins and Media talk from both sides of their mouths about RGIII

The Redskins and the media are blowing smoke where the sun don’t shine when it comes to embattled quarterback Robert Griffin III. A case in point is Pro Football Talk, no friend of the Redskins.  Here are two stories published on the same day, Sunday, August 30, 2015, on PFT. Aug. 30, 2015, 5:02 PM […]

The RGIII era is over for the Redskins

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan is building a team that can win in the future without Robert Griffin III. Whether RGIII stays with or leaves the team next season, the RGIII era is already over. The signs are everywhere. McCloughan hopes to build a team — bigger, stronger, tougher, run-first — less reliant on quarterback heroics for […]

Redskins and the fallacy of QB competition

“Why not a QB competition? Those aren’t always the best thing for the team. For one, a competition can create divisions in the locker room. But perhaps the worst aspect of a competition is that the two or three players split the first-team reps through OTAs, minicamp, and training camp. That means that the winner of the competition will have had only a third to a half of the first-team reps. That has your starter starting off the season behind the eight-ball.

“While the decision-making process that ended with Griffin being named the starter is interesting, it’s academic. It’s done, history. What matters now is who will be involved in the decision to pull the plug, should that call need to be made. If a decision to keep a struggling Griffin on the field is made by Allen and Snyder over the objections of the football people, McCloughan and Gruden, things could get ugly.”

Redskins square off against Ravens in Battle of the Beltway

The Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens are set to battle it out in the Battle of the Beltway at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night. It may be an exhibition matchup, but don’t tell that to these two teams. There’s always plenty of trash talking between fans and players alike, as M&T Bank Stadium and […]

The Triple Trap Door to Redskins Hell

The triple trap door to Redskins hell once again opened up wide this last preseason game against the Lions.  The triple door of horrific offensive line play RG3 pretending he is something he isn’t and bad head coaching decisions. This time it was Gruden instead of Shanahan.  We know by now that Jay Gruden as […]

Redskins – Lions: The violent world of Robert Griffin III

It must be hell to be Robert Griffin III this evening. Hard as he tried, he could not make his case to be the starting quarterback in Jay Gruden’s offense. Nothing he nor his team tried to do against the Lions worked to wipe away the stink of controversy. His detractors say he proved their […]

Redskins-Lions Preseason Matchup Will Feature Plenty of Action

Most of the talk surrounding the Washington Redskins recently has been about quarterback Robert Griffin III and his recent comments. RG3 claimed he’s the “best quarterback in the league,” which caused quite a stir among fans and analysts alike. But there’s so much more going on in Washington, as the team is looking to put […]

So Tom Compton who could never catch is going to be a Redskins Tight End of sorts

…but Ty Nsekhe, who has much more upside as a Tackle and is probably better** already as a Tackle than Tom Compton, has experience as a receiver post college.  Go figure. From the Redskins website: “As for Nsekhe, the 6-foot, 6-inch, 330 pounder was at one time doubling up as a receiver in the Arena […]

Redskins Face Cowboys In Lone Monday Night Football Matchup Of 2015

Just a few years ago, it appeared that the Washington Redskins were going to be a staple on prime time television.  With RGIII taking the league by storm his rookie season, it appeared Washington would be on Sunday or Monday Night Football three or four times per season. That expectation was short-lived as Griffin’s star […]

Redskins are looking at generously a 6-10 season, but there are positives

Scot has made it clear he doesn’t expect the Redskins to win too many games this year, and neither should the fans. He just expects them to be competitive, at best, and if not, he said he would make even more changes. Nothing in the Redskins first preseason game changed that assessment. Red Zone play […]

Is it too much to hope for Redskins improvement?

“Fans are in need of hope, any little sign that our team can exceed the low expectation we have of them. We are looking for Gruden to leave his comfort zone to embrace more of the read-option, play-action that Griffin runs so brilliantly. We hope for signs that Griffin “gets it” by stepping into the pocket instead of dropping back from it, sensing when his receiver is about to break open to release the ball in 2.7 seconds. Will RG avoid sacks by throwing the ball away?

“Fix this, Washington. Hope is a terrible thing to waste.”

For Redskins 2015 success, Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden must be as one

The cordiality we’ve seen thus far between Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden will not cut it if the Redskins are to improve upon last year’s misery. To contend for a title, the quarterback and the head coach must forge a legendary partnership to become GG1, Griffin & Gruden as one. The pair must mind-meld like […]

Three Out Of Four Washington Redskins Preseason Get-in Prices Are Less Than $10

Year one of Jay Gruden’s tenure as head coach of the Washington Redskins did not show much improvement from the 3-13 record Washington put up in 2013. Another year of injuries to Robert Griffin III and inconsistency from backup Kirk Cousins led to a 4-12 season that didn’t show promise in many areas for the […]

The Ty Nsekhe test and the ‘new’ Redskins

The new preliminary, don’t take it too seriously, Redskins depth chart came out and the first name I rushed to see was Ty Nsekhe. It’s early, but I wanted to know if the same old cronyism is going on now that has happened with the roster for some time.  Do new, unheard of guys really […]
