Tim Kaine said Senate should stay out of the Redskins name controversy

Democratic U.S. Senators whipped themselves in a PC frenzy two years ago when they publicly condemned the Washington Redskins team name in a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, instead of to Daniel Snyder who owns the team and the brand.

Tim Kaine and his Virginia colleague Mark Warner were the only Democratic Senators not to play along.

Asked to explain, Kaine said he did not care for the name but that the Senate should stay out of it.

Hog Heaven leans Democratic, but we look askance at Dems who invent offense where none exists. (Excessive political correctness gave rise to Donald Trump who makes a fetish of incorrectness.)

Whatever you think of Kaine, his stance is the correct one for government. This is a free country. Outside of safety, equality and criminal activity, private decisions by people and business is not their concern.

Redskins’ Junior Galette OUT for 2016 season

ESPN.com’s John Keim broke the news that Redskins pass rusher Junior Galette tore his Achilles tendon and will miss the 2016 season. noooooooooo! Is all I’ve got to say. nooooooooooo. Hog Heaven’s personal projection for the 2016 season drops by one game from 8-9 wins to 7-8 wins.

Redskins: Rare Trent Williams Hype Video

Rare that someone makes a hype video of an offensive lineman. Somebody did that for Trent Williams. Thanks to his play, no one in Washington says, “Gee, this team really misses Chris Samuels.”

Language Not Safe for Work. I am old school about that.

Chief Zee and the era when Redskins fans owned the game day experience

The passing of Zema “Chief Zee” Williams is a big deal, but not just for the loss of arguably the Redskins’ staunchest fan. The Chief is from an age when fans were more expressive. You know, before the NFL corporationists wrested control of the game experience from fans. They snuffed out all the originality that […]

The Redskins’ sad history with the franchise tag

“The Redskins have never signed a tagged player to a long-term contract. Their first franchised player was LB Wilber Marshall, who ended up with the Oilers after a contentious debate over compensation. A few years later transition-tagged CB Tom Carter signed an offer sheet with the Bears and the Redskins chose not to match. DT Sean Gilbert sat out a year rather than play on the franchise tag in 1997. He was tagged again in 1998 and eventually signed with the Panthers, giving the Redskins two first-round picks. CB Champ Bailey was on the tag for a few weeks before being traded to the Broncos in 2004. They didn’t use the tag again until 2012, when TE Fred Davis was franchised. He suffered a torn Achilles in Week 7, signed a one-year deal to return the next year, and hasn’t played since. Then came Orakpo.”

Reports: Next to no chance Kirk Cousins signs extension before deadline

Don’t expect quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins to agree to a long-term extension before Friday’s deadline for franchise-tagged players. Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report was told by one person close to negotiations that there is a “3-5 percent chance” the two sides agree to a new deal before the deadline, while Jason La […]

Everybody wins if there is no deal between Kirk Cousins and the Redskins

Hog Heaven foresaw this contract scenario play out for Kirk Cousins, but we saw it happening with another team. In 2012, we all saw Robert Griffin III as the savior of Redskins football who today would be playing on a one-year, bargain-priced $16 million contract extension. As we wait to see which side blinks first, […]

Kirk Cousins won’t get long-term deal by deadline

Kirk Cousins and the Redskins aren’t fazed by the looming July 15 deadline to sign franchise-tagged players to a long-term deal. That’s because Cousins and the Redskins are so far apart that it’s a foregone conclusion that the quarterback will play under the tag in 2016, according to Pro Football Talk. Cousins will earn $19.953 […]

Kirk Cousins and Josh Norman, who’s worth the money to the Redskins?

QB Kirk Cousins is the highest paid player on the Redskins for 2016. Josh Norman has the richest cornerback contract in the league. While there are still whispers that Cousins is not worth his $19.9 million franchise value — whispered perhaps from the very top of the team — there is no such talk with […]

Redskins’ Josh Norman is now a lockout cornerback, too.

Well, it worked before. In the 2010 contract negotiation, the players campaigned to re-open training camp with a silly “Let them play” theme. And they “won.” The owners campaigned for a rookie pay scale, limits to contract guarantees, absolute authority over player conduct, a greater share of TV revenue and a long-term deal. Capitalist thinking […]

Redskins, Champions of the Beast!

Enough, you silly non-DMV people, of all the talk about how “the Redskins didn’t beat anybody” when they won the NFC East last season. The Redskins were better — by far — than division rivals against the conference. Washington finished the season 8-4 against the NFC. No other Beast team finished as high as .500 against […]

Report: At least 3 teams have inquired about Arian Foster

Interest is starting to gain steam in free agent running back Arian Foster.  If you don’t believe me, then click here. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Foster has been contacted by “at least” three teams in the recent days or weeks. The 29-year-old running back was released by the Houston Texans this offseason after playing […]

Five NFL teams that improved during the 2016 offseason

Rex Ryan can claim that the Bills are the NFL’s 2016 offseason champions, but since pads aren’t worn during the offseason, that hollow title is up for debate. Offseason activities across the league ended Thursday with 25 teams wrapping up their mandatory minicamps. The other seven teams finished last week. So now we can look back at free […]

Redskins hire Dr. Robin West as first woman to lead NFL medical staff

In a landmark hiring, the Redskins named Dr. Robin West as their director of sports medicine Wednesday. West becomes the first woman to be the top doctor for an NFL organization, according to ESPN.com. She’s also the head physician for the Washington Nationals. The medical director of Inova Sports Medicine in Fairfax, Virginia, West has a […]

Josh Norman looks forward to playing like ‘rogue savage’

Either Josh Norman really likes the defensive scheme in Washington or he’s sending a message to Odell Beckham Jr. “I’m like a rogue savage out there, so I’m playing ball at the highest level of speed,” the Redskins cornerback said on ESPN 980, via The Washington Post, “I don’t need to think much; I just […]

How the Redskins make the NFL playoffs this season

You’ll know the Redskins will likely make the NFL playoffs if: At least 4 rookies make an impact on the team, especially during the 2nd half of the season. At least 4 starters make a big jump in improvement in their play and stay relatively healthy.  (For example, last season Morgan Moses, Kirk Cousins, Chris […]

The 4C strategy of Redskins GM Scot McCloughan explained

The strategy of the Redskins GM Scot McCloughan can perhaps be simplified by 4C’s: Cardinals, Colts, Cousins and Cornerbacks. Cardinals – the Redskins are trying to copy the success of the Cardinals not just on defense by picking Su’a Cravens in the 2nd round a la Deone Buchanon, but also their passing game.  The […]

Citing a number of on-field issues, one former veteran teammate believes it’s going to be difficult for quarterback Robert Griffin III to revive his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns. “He’s just not very good in the pocket,” the former teammate told ESPN’s The Undefeated. “When you asked him to sit back there and read defenses and […]
